I remember in the 1980s, when my sister and I were both working, but she'd got email first and was explaining the advantages, and I was unimpressed. It didn't seem to be of significant benefit.

I was off Friday so started the morning by checking email, only 29, some looked clearly deletable. Off to get tea and say hi to a co-worker and back to my cube and email had crashed and stayed down... ALL DAY. ALL FREAKING DAY. It was excruciating.

Two guys from another area showed up at my cube for an afternoon meeting, as they knew the time (they thought, they were early) but didn't know what conference room. I took them to the likely possibilities and we checked for the other attendees, leaving a message on one desk and texting another guy's personal cell, before we found someone who remembered the correct time and location.

I handle so many things by email, save so many things I reference, put reminders on my email calendar, etc. It had better be up tomorrow.
